Airtightness

Airtightness

Airtightness is the control of airflow in a building. Airtight solutions and draught proofing of a building is absolutely essential in maximising the effectiveness of thermal insulation, ensuring vast savings over a lifetime. When a building is properly fitted for airtightness, leaks or draughts do not occur at ceiling or wall junctions or board joints. These leaks create discomfort & heat loss which means that the heating has to operate at a greater capacity to compensate.

A building that is designed for airtightness and draught proofing also protects the structure over its life time because there is no moisture/condensation which can cause rot, damp, condensation or mould growth (which has an extremely high allergic potential which is harmful to health).

An airtight building envelope is essential to consider in building design. In order to maximise effectiveness, every new or refurbished thermal insulation system requires a functioning airtight seal.
