The main draw back of sliding sash windows, compared to casement windows is the AIR LEAKAGE, naturally sliding sash windows will leak more air as they do not have the compression seals of casements. In fact this is the main reason why most sliding sash windows can only achieve class ‘C’ window energy ratings. Our sliding sash windows produced to date are class ‘C’ rated. One part of the energy ratings calculations is the value of heat lost due to the air leakage, at present the window has a value of 0.13W/(m2.k). With the new seals fitted to our window, we have drastically reduced the heat lost through air leakage and our window now achieves a value of 0.01 W/(m2.k) (over 10 times better). We had our newly sealed window tested in a UK laboratory and we have reduced the air leakage (at 50 pascals) to 0.25 cubic metres of air every hour, the air leakage values are fully certified and reports are available upon request. As the seals are obviously so advantageous, they are now fitted in every window free of charge.In our current class ‘C’ window, we use low‐e 1.1 u‐value argon filled double glazing with black swiss ‘v’ warm edge spacer bar & opti‐white glass, and achieve an energy rating band index of ‐17. Because of our new seals we can now achieve class ‘C’ with an energy rating band index of ‐15 by leaving out the expensive opti‐white glass. We have now taken the decision to standardise with our new class ‘C’ and are doing this at no extra charge, so every window we produce will be fitted with low‐e 1.1 & black swiss ‘v’ warm edge spacer bar.
